What is eye donation?

After death, a trained medical team collects the eyes. The cornea — the clear window at the front of the eye — is then given to someone whose sight was lost to a damaged cornea.

Why donate?

  • One person's eye donation can give sight to 4–6 people.
  • It is a simple, safe and noble human contribution.
  • It brings light, independence and new hope to someone who cannot see.

How it works From pledge to service

  1. Take the eye-donation pledge in your lifetime.
  2. Tell your family about your wish.
  3. After death, the family informs us at once.
  4. A medical team contacts them and collects the eyes.
  5. After testing, the cornea is transplanted into someone who needs it.

After a death: what the family should do

Even after death, eye donation brings light into a life.

  1. Close the eyes and keep the head slightly raised.
  2. If there is an AC, keep it switched on.
  3. Switch off the fan.
  4. Do not press on the eyes.
  5. Cover the eyes with a wet cloth or cotton, so they stay moist.
  6. Call as soon as possible — the eyes must be collected within 4–6 hours.
